Artist Susan Tonkin Riegel lives and works in San Francisco, California.
Susan Tonkin Riegel is a practicing artist and graduate of UC Berkeley where she studied with notable Bay Area figurative painters Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brown. She received her MA at Sac State and has been involved in multiple solo and group shows nationally and internationally. Susan is a mixed-media artist who explores symbols, archetypes, numbers, and letters in her work. Inspired by diverse influences such as vivid dreams, international travel, and children’s art, Tonkin Riegel uses acrylic paint, pastels, graphite, thread, and paper to create her ethereal work. She emphasizes spontaneity and intuition in her creative process stating, “My work is about being in the present moment.”
