Artist Shara Mays lives and works in Oakland, California.
Shara Mays (she/her) is a painter whose work explores the fluidity of memory and the transcendence of self through the language of abstraction and landscape. Born in Tarboro, North Carolina and currently living in Oakland, California, Mays earned an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, and a BFA from the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University. She has, in the past, been awarded a fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, and is a current Affiliate Artist at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California.
