Artist Shane Kennedy lives and works in Mill Valley, California.
Garden designer, furniture designer and artist Shane Kennedy moved from New York to San Francisco in 1988. His work under the name Furniture Club was a major part of the Art Furniture movement in 1980s New York. Furniture Club's work blended simple shapes with dyed concrete and steel.
The move to San Francisco allowed for a new direction. Junk yards, dumpsters, and flea markets were sources for materials to use and allow a second life. Welded masks and totems, constructions and collages were all generated from these searches. Working quickly and without a plan, Kennedy looks for moments to start and stop and capture the unexpected.
