Art Visit is a website that connects art lovers with an intimate chance to visit an artist’s studio. We spoke with the creators to learn more about their vision and the process behind building the platform.

Tell us about artvisit.org.

Art Visit is a website that allows you to book a visit to an artist’s studio. We offer visits to approximately 50 individual artist studios in the San Francisco Bay Area. Unlike viewing art in an art gallery setting, seeing an artist’s work in their personal studio space is a chance to interact on a personal and intimate level with artwork and artists themselves.

Who is behind the site?

Amanda Perry and Michal Sloboda are good friends and art lovers.

Amanda was born in San Francisco and raised in Marin County. She currently lives in Potrero Hill where she works (mostly from home) as a legal recruiter. She spends her free time checking out local art galleries, monitoring her local art scene and deepening her yoga practice.

Michal was born in Slovakia and has lived in the Bay Area for the last four years. He works as a freelance UX and brand designer. He collects art he finds and enjoys talking about art in his free time.

How can people use artvisit.org?

Scroll through our list of curated local artists and find one you’d like to visit. Click “book” and select a date and time. Next, we’ll notify the artist and coordinate your visit.

Why did you want to create it?

We wanted to expand access to viewing and buying artwork, especially by emerging artists. Today, artists have very few opportunities to exhibit and sell their work. We hope that Art Visit creates another platform for artists to show and sell their work and allow collectors to meet directly with their favorite artists.

When did you make it?

We went live in January 2022. It took us about a year and a half to choose our list of favorite artists local to the Bay Area. Once we decided on 50 or so artists to feature, we created the site in less than a week.

Why is it important to connect people to art using technology?

Technology is an integral part of our everyday lives so it’s critical that a technological pathway to the art world exists.

Will your offerings expand beyond San Francisco?

Not yet, potentially.

How do you find artists to feature?

Lots of ways. The artists we decided to feature are our friends, artists we’ve seen at local exhibitions and artists we’ve learned about online. We are always looking out for fresh artists to feature.
